Ahmedabad Sightseeing

Located on the banks of the Sabarmati river, Ahmedabad is the largest city in Gujarat. It is the fifth-most populous city in India and in 2012 was ranked the best Indian city to live in by The Times of India. It was first founded in the 11th century by King Karandev who named the city Karnavati. It was renamed by the 15th-century Muzzafarid dynasty ruler, Sultan Ahmed Shah. Here is a list of Ahmedabad sightseeing places that gives you hints of the stories this city has to tell.

Sabarmati Ashram

Established in 1915 by Mahatma Gandhi, this is arguably the most famous of all Ahmedabad tourist places. In 1930, it was from here that Gandhi and his companions set off on the Dandi march, which protested against the British tax on salt, and was an integral episode in the Civil Disobedience Movement. Today, it houses a museum dedicated to Gandhi's life and sees thousands of visitors every day.

Over the years, the Ashram became home to the ideology that set India free. It aided countless other nations and people in their own battles against oppressive forces.

Today, the Ashram serves as a source of inspiration and guidance, and stands as a monument to Gandhi’s life mission and a testimony to others who have fought a similar struggle.
